Energy for Life Walk CORRECTION

This Saturday is the Energy for Life Walk to help raise awareness and funds for research and treatment for Mitochondrial Disease. Your dollars will also help research for Diabetes, Autism, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Cancer. My hero, Drew Andersen was on TV this morning discussing the upcoming Walk. I’ll be on tomorrow doing the same thing! THREE DAYS AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the segment below, WINK TV made a terrible error! Drew Andersen is not ‘recently diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease.’ He is the surviving sibling of three children in the Andersen Family. Two have died from the disease. Drew does not have Mitochondrial Disease. The outcries that occurred after this segment aired lets Drew and his parents know how much he is loved. He is trying to raise awareness and raise funds to fight Mitochondrial Disease.

Free Youth EKG Screening

To provide peace of mind to young students and their families, Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida offers free EKG testing to middle and high school-aged athletes. Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death among young athletes and often provides no advance signs or symptoms. Electrocardiogram is a tool that may detect a child’s risk for sudden cardiac arrest. Students get one free EKG per their lifetime and no appointment is necessary.

The Energy for Life Walk is on December 3, 2016

Three weeks away from The Energy for Life Walk! Mitochondrial Disease affects 1 in 4 people and the research you will be funding also supports research to support Autism, Parkinson’s Disease, Diabetes and Cancer. I have taken care of several children with Mitochondrial Disease in my career as a Pediatrician. One family that I love, has lost two children to this terrible disease. Their surviving child and his friend, who also has a brother with Mitochondrial Disease (and I take care of), have banded together to raise a Million Dollars to assure that no other family has to go through their struggles. Help me to help these ‘tweens’ to make a difference! Any contribution will help! http://www.energyforlifewalk.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=1160966&supid=422845595

Autism and Mitochondrial Disease!

In case you missed it, I was on WINK TV’s XCW this morning discussing two new research papers out this week linking Autism and Mitochondrial Disease, and a separate article on Early Intervention with Autism and parents. I apologize for a ‘poor performance’ by me, but the message is important! It is also a month away from the Mitochondrial Disease Energy for Life Walk coming up on December 3, 2016.

Please help in any way. Donate or sponsor! Join us and form a team to walk!

Mitochondrial Disease affects 1 in 4 people, that means that every 15 minutes a child is born who will develop a mitochondrial disease by the age of 10. Being a Pediatrician for over 25 years, I have cared for children with Mitochondrial Disease. I have one family that has lost two children to this disease and I have pledged to help their surviving child raise a million dollars for a cure. His hope is that no other family has to go through the pain and suffering that his family has endured. Supporting this research not only helps in finding a cure for Mitochondrial Disease, but also helps with other related diseases like: Autism, Diabetes, Parkinson’s Disease and some cancers.
